Transform your food waste into valuable plant food with a Bokashi Composter
A Bokashi Composter ferments and pickles your food waste in less than half the time of conventional composting methods without odours. The method involves placing all your food waste into fully sealed containers and sprinkling the all-important ‘Bokashi Bran’ over them before sealing the container.
Unlike the traditional compost heap, the fermentation process takes place without air in a sealed container. It relies on living organisms (bokashi bran) that activate upon contact with organic matter and begin the breakdown of the organic material (anaerobic decomposition).
The output is not soil, as is standard composting, but rather a pickled form of waste, which is a pre-composter. This can then be added to your garden or compost pile to continue the composting process.
The advantage of this is that it speeds up the composting process. It takes approximately two weeks to ferment waste in the Bokashi bin. It will also produce a nutrient tea (liquid feed packed with beneficial microbes) that is also good for your garden and plants!
Layer food waste with Bokashi bran until the bin is full. Leave for 2 weeks, regularly draining any nutrient liquid that is produced.
If you are looking for a convenient and efficient way to compost your food waste while producing valuable soil conditioner, then the Bokashi composter bin is for you.

Bokashi Bin FAQ
What can you put in your Bokashi Composter?
You can put almost any food waste in your Bokashi Bin, including vegetables, fruits, grains, dairy products, and cooked leftovers. It is not recommended to add meat, fish, or anything that has been processed, as they do not break down quickly enough.
What should you not put in a bokashi bin?
Certain items, such as meat, fish, and processed foods, should not be put in your bokashi bin. Additionally, you should avoid adding oils or fats to the bin, as these can become rancid and attract pests.
It is also best to avoid adding large amounts of food waste at once, as this will cause the composting process to slow down.
Is the Bokashi Bran Included?
Yes, there is a starter portion included in your bokashi bin to get you started. This starter portion consists of a special blend of beneficial microorganisms and bran, which will help to quickly break down the organic material in your bokashi bin.
Is bokashi better than composting?
The bokashi composter bin system offers numerous advantages compared to traditional composting methods. Not only is it simpler to maintain, but it is also more cost-effective, quicker, and odor-free.
While it may not necessarily surpass traditional composting methods, it proves highly effective for individuals residing in urban environments or apartments with limited space.

Why Bokashi Composting? And why should you invest in a Bokashi bin?
Easy Indoor Composting
A Bokashi Composter bin is compact and designed for indoor use, making it ideal if you are an urban dweller or, like so many others in the Uk have limited space. You can compost kitchen scraps, including meat, dairy, and cooked foods, right in your kitchen.
Odor Control
Bokashi composting uses anaerobic fermentation, which significantly reduces the bad odours associated with traditional methods of breaking down organic waste This makes it more suitable for indoor use and apartments.
Quick Decomposition
The fermentation process in a Bokashi composter bin outpaces traditional composting by being significantly faster. It has the remarkable ability to break down organic matter in a matter of weeks, a feat that typically takes several months or more in a conventional compost heap
Versatile
Bokashi bins can compost a wide range of organic materials, including fruit and vegetable scraps, coffee grounds, eggshells, dairy products, and more. They can also handle items like citrus peels and small bones that are typically avoided in traditional composting.
Rich Soil Amendment
The end product of Bokashi composting, known as "Bokashi pre-compost," is a nutrient-rich material that can improve the quality of your garden soil. It enhances soil structure, retains moisture, and provides essential nutrients to your plants.
Reduces Landfill Waste
Bokashi composting helps divert organic waste from landfills, where it can release methane, a potent greenhouse gas. By using a Bokashi bin, you contribute to reducing your environmental impact.
Minimal Maintenance
A Bokashi composter requires little maintenance. You can add food scraps daily and simply follow the instructions for layering with Bokashi bran (a mix of microorganisms) to facilitate the fermentation process.
Liquid Fertilizer
Bokashi bin also produces a nutrient-rich liquid byproduct known as "Bokashi tea." This can be diluted with water and used as a natural liquid fertilizer for your plants.
Easy to Start
Bokashi composting is beginner-friendly and doesn't require specialized knowledge. Our Bokashi composter bins come with a starter portion of bokashi bran as well as easy-to-follow instructions
Sustainable Living
Using a Bokashi bin is a sustainable and eco-friendly way to manage food waste and contribute to a more circular economy by recycling organic materials into valuable resources.
